THE GREAT LAND CONCESSION.

The New Guinea laud syndicate has paid £1000 as the first instalment due upon 40,000 acres of British New Guinea under the Land Con • csssion Act. The Syndicate has agreed to an amendment of the ordinance by the Colonial Office. Mr Chamberlain considers that the concession is regular, and is disinclined to cancel it. ' In reply to a question in the House of Commons, Mr Chamberlain said it was intended te submit the Syndicate's ordinance for the Queen's approval. Received June Bth, 10.30 p.m. Brisbane, June 8. Sir Hugh Nelson is preparing a report on the New Guinea land concession question. When Sir "William McGregor visited Brisbane recently he made no secret about the negotiations then pending.
