HUNTING.
At the meet at Mr A. Bailey's, on Tuesday, a dense fog and cold wind somewhat marred the proceedings in the morning, buc still some very nice gallop? were enjoyed over the besc of hunting countries, and there was any amount of jumping. In the afternoon, the fog having cleared, some really food sport took place. A hare was found in tr A. Bailey's, which ran to Mr McCleod's, Chen turned back over Mr Bailey's, and then on over the West Coast road to the riverbed. The hounds raced over a very wiry country in the direction of Mr Bong's run, but turning a bit, they still kept on running almost to West Melton, where a lot of fresh hares getting up, the hounds had to be whipped off. J?or those who were tiiere. it was a really good gallop, but as about seventeen bare wire fences had to be negotiated on the way, the field was very select at the finish, only Messrs Heaton Rhodes, Murray, Cotterill, R. C. Wilson, F. Neave, T. Bassett, and the master and whip being there. There was a good field of about forty, all told, and all were most hospitably entertained by Mr and Mrs A. Bailey. The country hunted over belonged to Bailey, McCleed, JelFs, Chipman. Wliitta tnd Muirhead Bros., and the Christchurch Hunt Club is muck indebted to these gentlemen for the sport enjoyed.
