THE VOLUNTEERS.

At the inspection parade of the Kaiapoi Rifles, conducted by Major W. A. Day of the battalion staff, and Sergeant-Majar Purvis of the permanent staff, on Friday evening, there was a muster of fifty-one in command of Captain T. Millar ana Lieut. E. E. Papprill. The arms and accoutrements were found in good order, and the inspecting officer referred in terms of praise to the display of the company by the non-commissioned officers. , Twenty-one marksmen's badges were afterwards given out by Captain Millar tothose who qualified in last year's class firing. A return shooting match between the Kaiapoi and Queen's Cadets is to take place on the range of the former corps to-morrow. The last match resulted in a tie.
