THE TAILORING TRADE.

The Christchurch Tailoring Trade Union has submitted a statement of prices and conditions of labour to the employers of labour, to which they ask for an answer in a specified time. . The conditions are—(l) The hours of labour not to be more than forty-eight per week ; work to be done between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the first five days, and 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. (2) All overtime from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. to be paid time and a quarter, double time after 11 p.m. to be paid for the first five days, after 1 on Saturdays to 6 p.m. time and a quarter; after 6 p.m. time and a half; on holidays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. time and a quarter; after 5 p.m. double time. (3). Not more than two weekly hands to be employed' in each shop, two males or two females, or one male and one female, provided machinists, pressers and persons kept for Tepairs and alterations are not affected. (4). Wages for weekly, hands to be—males, minimum £2 lbs per week, fe males £1 12s 6d. (5). The proportion of apprentices to be one t*i four men, or fraction of the first four.
