ASHBURTON.
The regular meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present—Crs. Bird, Baker, Orr, Paul, Thomas and Scaly. Cr. Scaly was voted to the chair. The debit balance at the bank was reported to be £1641 18a 9d. A letter from Mr W. Sutherland, asking for a permanent reduction in rent of reserve at Hinds, evoked considerable discussion. The Council resolved to adhere to its resolution to reduce the rent for the current year. The Mayor, Crs. Orr, Scaly and Thomas were appointed a sub-committee to make enquiries and report on the suggestion to take over control of the intake from the Canterbury Mill proprietors. It was decided to make some improvements to the cycling track in the Domain prior to the Easter Monday sports meeting.
