NEW BRIGHTON.

The ordinary meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council was held last evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor - (R. C. Bishop), Crs. Mclntyre, Rowe, Owles, Glanville, and Thomson. The Mayor, in his report, referred to the late fire at New Brighton- and suggested that a Fire Brigade be organised for the borough. Correspondence was received from the Registrar of Dogs re law costs on recent court case. The Couucil resolved that it could not depart from the agreement made. The Works Committee reported that the culverts had been given for Pyke's right-of-way, and recommended that the sand be scooped from the esplanade, and that the sum of £5 be expended as an experiment. It was resolved that the amount be spent in removing the sand between Sea View road and High street. The Lighting Committee recommended that three more lamps be provided for the esplanade. The matter was deferred till next meeting. The tender of F. Harrison Was accepted for the lighting of the lamps, £31 13s 4d. It was resolvethat the Council call a public meeting at a future date and invite experts to givo their opinion re planting the esplanade and other places within the borough. The By-law Committee were authorised to select subjects from the list approved of by the Council and to take steps to have bylaws on such subjects prepared without del-y. The Town Clerk was asked to furnish"an*estimate for the completion of the footpath on the west end of Seaview road along the New Brighton road as far as Mcintosh's house. Leave of absence was granted to Crs. Winny and Marshall.
