WEDNESDAY'S STOCK MARKET.

[by our commercial editor.) There were fair entries of stock in all departments, but the attendance was somewhat below the usual average. The yarding of store sheep was composed principally of lambs, with a few lots of ewes and wethers. For sound-mouthed ewes and good sorts of wethers there was a better enquiry than the prices obtained denote, but lambs were very difficult to dispose of, except at reduced ratee. A few wethers made 63 9d and 7s 6d, crossbred ewes 4s Id to 4s lid, boilers Is to 2s 9d, good framed lambs 5s to 7s, others 2s 2d to 4s 9d, includipg 400 at the lower figure. Between two and three thousand lambs were placed in the fat pens, of which not more than about five or six hundred wore prime freezers, the bulk being stores and batchers , lots. The market wa3 somewhat irregular, especially for freezers, and generally prices for these wore easier. Butchers' lambs and good framed forward stores were in fair demand, and in eonio cases prices showed an improvement". Best freezers made from 9s 6d to lls, the latter figure being obtained for a line of 162, secondary sorts 8s to 9s 3d, butchers' lota 6s to 7.<6d, stores,4s to 6s 6d. There was a medium entry of fat sheep, the larger proportion of which was crossbred ewes, and the remainder prime crossbred freezing wethers. The latter were well competed for, and made from lls to 12s 6d, and some prime maiden ewes brought lls to Hβ 2d. At the opening of the sale butchers , crossbred ewes sold well, but afterwards became very irregular. The best lots made 8s to 93 lid, medium 6s to 7s 6d, and inferior 3s 6d to 53 6d. An entry of 175 head of fat cattle was much beyond the requirements of the trade, and the few sales that were effected were on the basis of late rates. There was a number of good Bteera', including a nice lino from the Peninsula, but there was a considerable proportion of light weights. Steers made £4 15s tp £7 17s 6d, heifers £3 10s to £57e 6d, and cows £2 15s to £6 7s 6d, equal to 15s 6d to 17s for prime, 13s to 15s for medium, and 10s to 12s 6d for inferior per 1001b#. The dairy cows-were mostly aged sorts, and sold at all prices up to £5 10s. In the store cattle department only a few sales were made at extremely low figures. There was a medium entry of pigs, whioh ' was cleared at late rates, baconers making 32s to 47s 6d, porkers 19s 6d to 30s, and stores 15s to 265.
