The Chicago Gold Mining Syndicate, Tararu Creek, Thames, whose headquarters are in Christchurch, received a telegram on 19th October that a large body of quartz had been struck in their No. 2 drive at 143 feet from the surface, the reef being 4ft 6in wide and a splendid class of quartz. Two tons were broken out on 22nd October and treated at the May Queen extended battery, for a return of ooz 14:lwt smelted gold. On 9th November the following telegram was received :—" Cut second large body quartz, gold freely seen when breaking down ; assay being made at School of Mines, Thamts. On 10th November the following wire received:—"Assay quartz, School Mines, 78oz gold, 68oz silver, value £317 per ton." (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, November 11.
