MUSICAL.

LIEDERTAFEL GEMISCHTER ABEND. It was a very thoughtful and kindly act on the part of the Liedertafel to bold their Ganiscltter Abend at a time when the visitors from other parts could take the opportunity of hearing them. The Temple, in which the concert was given, looked very pretty. The stage especially was beautifully decorated with palms, ferns, pelargoniums, heath, and azaleas, and draped in red and yellow, having a charming effect. There was a large attendance, the building being 611ed. The opening part song " Morning prayer " was well sung. The song ia exceedingly pretty, and the members of the Liedertafel gave it with much completeness. Mr Wardrop, who has a nice cultured voice, sang "Bid mc to love" with much taste and expression, and had to repeat it. Of the two part songs which followed, "In the moonlight" and "Pussy's in the well," the former was given with good effect, the pianissimo of the finale .especially so. The second was sung with much humour, the cat music being given effectively by a well-known basso. Mr Barkas sang excellently in Maud Valeric White's " A youth once loved," and had to respond to an encore with " The roses of yesterday." The trio part songs " Olaf '-Trygavson " and " Hardanger," went well. Mr F. M. Wallace gave his hearers a great treat by his artistic playing of Ceri's charming "Questions et Responses," which was beautifully interpreted. Pierne's "Serenade," which followed, was also excellent and was redemanded. The numbers were undoubtedly the gems of the evening. Mr Izard sang "Cherry Ripe," and for an encore " The Lass ot Richmond Hill." A funny part song, "I'm so Nervous," capitally sung, closed the first part. The second part opened with the part song, "Simple Simon," which went well. Mr Millar sang Schubert's fine song, " The Wanderer," and it was encored, responding with " Out on the Deep," a couple of part songs, of which "Good Night" was the beat, followed. Mr H. M. Reeves, who , was in good voice, sang " Alia Stella Confidente," with violin obbligato by Mr Wallace, and tho pleasant concert terminated with two part songs, one of which, " Good Night," was particularly well suDg.

Mr Wallace conducted with his usual ability and success, and throughout the Liedertafel are to be congratulated upon the admirable w*y in which all the numbers were given.
