RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of this Council was held on Friday evening. There were present—The Mayor, Crs. Blackett, Carmichael, Good, Shankland, Luxton and Sansom. Messrs F. VV. Foster and Tho3. Keir, two recently elected Councillors, took the usual declaration and their seats. Correspondence was read as follows :—From Mr E. W. Roper, asking the Council's cooperation in procuring a training ship, which was granted, and it was decided to ask the member for the district to support any proposal brought before the House of Representatives. From Mr J. C. Todd re cost of alphalt in front of premises lately owned by him. From the Chairman of the Hawke's Bay Relict Fund, acknowledging the receipt of the balance ot subscriptions in aid of the sufferers by the flood, making a total of £32 153 from the borough. Mr F. B. Lawe3* offer to keep the town clock in order for the ensuing year was accepted. The Town Clerk, Kaiapoi, wrote, asking the Council to assist in getting a late train from Christchurch on Saturday night. It was decided not to support the proposal. Mr Tyler, engineer to the Fire Brigade, forwarded his resignation, which was accepted with thanks for hia past services. The Clerk to the Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board notified that a conference of delegates from the local bodies interested in the election of members for the Ashley River Domain Board would meet on Tuesday next in the Borough Uouncil Chamber. The Mayor, Crs. Good and Carmichael were appointed to represent the Council. The Works Committee reported that a culvert had been put down iv King street and concrete pipes at the South belt and in a ford in Charles street. The financial statement showed receipts £40 19s Id, debtor balance £85 13s 10d. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £95 193 3d. Mr J. Willis was appointed dog ranger for the ensuing twelve months. The Mayor reported on an interview he had with the Domain Board, and stated that the Board was quite willing to hand over the management of the recreation ground to the Council. It was reported that no offers of land had been received for a public cemetery for Rangiora. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the Council to discuss the by-laws. The following are the members elected on the various Committees for the ensuing year : — Works, Crs. Cannichael, Foster, and Luxton ; Finance, Crs. Good, Sansom, and Keir ; Lighting, Crs. .Blackett, Shankland, and Cone; Fire Brigade, Crs. Shankland, Luxton, and Keir, the first named in each case to be Chairman. The Council then adourned.
