Friday, September 17. (Before W. W. Collins and Jaa. Thompson, Esqs., J.P.s) Allbqed False Prktbn'Cks. — Edward Barney admitted having obtained on August 7th to 16th board acid lodgings from James Pitcairn by a false pretence, dipt. Bishop, of the Salvation Army, said this man had been driven to the otlence by sheer want. The Army, if allowed, would take him and endeavour to get work for him. His charactor had hitherto been very good. The aocused waa convicted and discharged. Trespass with Dogs.— Percy Russell and Win. Hunsley, boys, admitted having been found on September Bth with a dog in their following on the Cashmere Estate. Mr Hugouin, Manager, sa ; d great damage was dono to sheep running on the estate by dogs with parties presumably in pursuit of game. In this case ho asked the Bench not for a heavy penalty, but one sufficient to be a warning to others. The defendants wove fined eaoh £1, with 4s 6d costs.

Allkokd Foki;krv and Uttering. — Andrew Thomson was oharged with having on Soptembor 13th forged the signature of E. G. Rhodes to a cheque for £3 on the Bank of New Zealand, aud uttered the same to F s Hopkins. On the application of the police he was remanded till September 22nd.

MisoEUANROUs.—A case against Albert Jonea for driving, whereby a collision occurred in Colombo street on September 3rd, was dismissed. Mr Beswick appeared for the defendant. —For allowing beasts to be at large or graze on roads, Jas. Jardino was fined ss, with 7a costs ; T. Wheeler Qs [This defendant, an infirm old man, was shown to be in very poor circumstances, and the Chairman, Mr Collins, paid the fine.]; and I. Hyde wa« cautioned. — For riding bicycles oc footpaths Miss E. Doakin and A. Minson were each fined ss, with 7a costs; Miss EL Cook 10s, with 9s costs.—For leaving a horse and cart unattended C. Lnxton was fined ss, with 7s costs. —W. J. Mulholland, for whom Mr Cresswell appeared, waa charged with assaulting S. T. Henwood, who did not appear, and the case was dismissed, the plaintiff to pay solicitor's fee £1 Iβ.—For keeping unregistered dogs, the following linos were indicted :—Win, Rogers, Jas. Den ham and VV. Hill each 10s with 17s costs ; C. O'Connor, Mrs Matere, D. Kennedy, and 1 ,, . Black more each ss, with 17s costs. A case against Mrs Gordon was dismissed, she being allowed expenses, 15s.
