SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The monthly meeting of the Richmond Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Present — Messrs Snowball (Chairman), Clarke, Eldridge, Flesher, Hughes, Piull, and Sorensen. An apology was received for the absence of Mr P. Ledaham. The master's report showed that the attendance had regained its normal condition. Arrangements were made to have the bath ready for the opening of the swimming season on Ist October. Various accounts were passed. The Ashburton Committee met on Monday evening. Present— Meesrs Macpberson (Chairman), Meddins, Craighead, Chapman, Phaup, Silcock, Keir and Rule. The Chairman reported the credit balance at the Bank to be £3 4s 7d. An apology was received for the absence of Mr Hanrner. The head master (Mr C. D. Hardie) reported roll number 422, average attendance 373. The Inspector's report showed that the children were in receipt of efficient instruction, the classes were under good control, and the certificated member* of the staff were earnest and capable. Since the previous inspection special attention had been given with manifest improvement to writing and composition, subjects then criticised. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the head master and teachers, and also to the mistress of the AUenton school.
A meeting of the Hampstead School Committee was held on Monday evening. Present—Messrs Crooks (Chairman), Lawrie, McKeague, Hardy, and Andrews. Messrs Pickford and Mcßae were granted leave of absence for the meeting. The master's report showed roll number 401, average attendance 554. The Inspector's report was read, and the Committee congratulated the teachers on its very excellent nature. Accounts for £1 Is 6d were passed.
