VITAL STATISTICS.
(PjRBES AC3OOATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, September 16. The following are the vital statistics for August, 1897:—
The total births in above-named boroughs amounted to 375, against 379 in July, a decrease of 4. The deaths in August were 195, a decrease of 3 on the number in July.
Of the total deaths males contributed 111, females 84 ; 49 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 25.13 per cent, of the whole number; 35 of these were under 1 year of age, There were 47 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards ; seven men, 65, 66, 69, 70, 71, 73, 81, and five women, 65, 67, 75, 77, 83 died at Auckland ; nine men, 65, 67 (2), 68, 70, 74 (2), 75, 85, and three women 77 (2), 78 at Wellington ; two men, 66, 73, and nine women, 67, 69, 72, 75, 81, 84, 86, 87, 93, at Christchurch ; and six men, 68, 69, 72, 77, 79, 83, and six women, 68, 69, 70, 77, 85, 87 at Dune din.
