AMONGST THE JUNIORS.

[By True.Blue.] The game that attracted most interest at Lancaster Park on Saturday that between Christ's College and Merivale B in the Cup contest. . The cause of such interest was due to the fact that if the College proved victorious the Boy's High School would win thecompetition, whereas if a draw eventuated the School would be even with Merivale; but as things turned out the wearers of the Blue and White hoops won by 29 points to 3, Merivale 13. thus having the honour of having their club's name engraved on the cup for first time since it was inaugurated in 1892, the other winners having been :—1892 Pirates (now defunct), 1893 Albfbn, 1894 North Canterbury, 1895 Southern (now defunct), and 1896 Kaiapoi. With regard to the game on Saturday, the contest proved very interesting till well into the second half,* but then the College collapsed and Merivale brought their score up from three to twenty-nine points in a very short time. In the first half the College boys played hard and well and at half time the score stood at three points all, but the condition and superiot play of the Merivale backs told the tale at. the finish.

Burrell, the Merivale full-back, played a splendid game right through ; he is very cool and kicked with judgment. Neat, Mason, and Biltcliff displayed grand combination at three-quarter and showed improvement on the previous Saturday's form, fchcir passing ruenes oii Saturday being almost perfect. Webster, the five-eighth, was the best back on the ground, his tackling being a fnature of the game. Hobbs sent the oval out well, but was a little inclined at times to hold to it longer than he should. However, taking his play all round his display at half Ava% good. Cartev was a better wing man than Walburton, the latter being far too fond of standing off-side, doing far more harm than good. Marrir.er, was the best of the forwards being very clever in. the open. Connish and Butterfield also played exceptionally well in the forwards. "y'orlce was not reliable as full-back for College, his kicking and tackling being poor. Louisson was the beat of the three-quarters, and Cotterill also showed good form, but ITryer was not at his best. Weston played well afc five-eighths, giving some very clever passes. Little Pascoo gave a good display behind the scrum, and he will doubtless develop into a good player. Blundcn was t«he better of the wing forwards, and Holderness Ovenden and Webater were the best of the forwards.
