QUEENSLAND ARTESIAN BORES.
Queensland has to climb down somewhat as to the yield of her artesian water enpplv. Last year Sir Hugh Nelson told his budget audience that 293 bores were yielding 215,727,507 gallons daily, which w.is less than the estimate of the previous year some 180,Q'*8,000 gallons. Now, however, the How has been actually measured from 134 bores, and it 13 found that tho previous estimate overstated the maik by a large percentage. The result from 319 bores is now, therefore, placed at 130,762,000 gallons daily, or just about one-third of what was supposed to be the yield two years back from a smaller number. However, this is a very substantial and satisfactory yield, and would cover annually 100 square miles to a depth of nearly 3ft —a great boon for Western Queensland.
