AMBERLEY STEEPLECHASE CLUB.

Delightful weather favoured Club for its annual gathering yesterday. The excursion train from Christchurcb. was more heavily freighted than usual, and altogether the attendance was above the average. The sport was interesting enough, but there was unfortunately a great many falls. One of a serious nature occurred in the preliminary for the Hurdle Race, Contractor slipping and falling in taking off at the trial jump. The horse rolled on top of his rider, James Young, who was picked up unconscious, it being found he had broken hie shoulder and sustained concussion of the brain. Power, who came in by himself in the Brackenfield Plate, was protested against for jumping the wrong side of a flag, and After investigation he was deprived of the race. Powder Monkey lay a long way from the leaders in the early stages of the Hurdle Race and the rattle with which he came at the end made it appear that had more use been made of him he would have beaten Walrus, who, as it was, won easily, paying the best dividend of the day. The sum of £1226 10s was handled at the totalisators, which is £102 more than last season. Results : —
