AUCKLAND. August 26. Constable Jones arrested a man named .Mclruioe on Tuesday, at the new settlement beyond Pirongia, on a charge of attempting to shoot a settler named Harris. There had been a quarrel between the two men, the cause of which has not transpired. Mclndoe was remanded for eight days, bail of £50 and £100 l>eing allowed.
The police have arresterl Frederick Deason and Albert Weeks, alias "Benny," on a charge of breaking and entering the premises of McKeown and others. They were remanded.
STRATFORD, Augnst 26. After leaving Stratford last night the Governor's train ran into a mob of cattle at Tariki road, killing three beasts. The engine did not leave the rails and no stoppage occurred.
WESTPORT, August 26. The wreck of the Yolande has been sold by auction for £7. The timber cargo was not offered. A nautical inquiry will be held.
