ESTUDIAMINA BAND CONCERT.
The Estudiantina Band, which has recently been resuscitated under exceedingly favourable auspices, gave a concert last night at the Theatre Royal, when there was a good attendance. . One would have liked to have had more of the band themselves on the programme than was actually the case, the various items they played being excellent. They, however, played three accompaniments, in addition to their own numbers. Miss Alice Corriek sang well in the duet, "Homo to our Mountains," with Mr Read, in'the first part, and she was also heard to advantage in Ganz's " The Nightingale's Trill," in the second. She was encored, and responded with " The Little Silver Ring." Miss Alice Gray, whom one is glad to hear more frequently of late at concerts, was in excellent voice, sang Braga's "La Serenata," and Siebel's song from "Faust," both very well indeed. Miss Hayward sang Bishop's "Bid mc to Love," and " Alas, those Chimes, ,, excellently. Mr C. Read rondo quite a hit in his illustrated Bong, " The Death of Nelson," Mr Seager exhibiting some appropriate limelight pictures. A little loss of the drum obKgato would have been an improvement, the guns which this was supposed to represent going off at most inopportune times. Mr Read had to repeat the last verse. He was also good in the duet with Miss Corrick. Mr A. Millar, forsaking his old loves, with which one had become pretty familiar, sang very acceptably Mattei'e fine song, "Oh, Oh, hear the wild winds blow," and Watson's '• Thy Sentinel am I." Mr Kistle Cornwall gave " Tell mc, Mary," and Blnmcnthal's "Evening Song." Mr Cecil Holmea painted n very nrtistio little sea tcape in colours in seven minutes. A couple of recitations by Mr D. Ryan, without whom, by the way, no concert programme in Christchurch seems complete, concluded a very enjoyable concert, on the success of which tho Estudiantina Band are to be congratulated.
