WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.

A special meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held oo Wednesday, to consider the question of registration. The following resolutions were unanimously passed:—l. " That- the Women's Christian Temperance Union of Christchurch become incorporated under the Unclassified Societies Act, 1895, under the style and title of ' The Women's Christian Temperance Union of Christ' church.' " 2. " That all necessary stepa be taken by the President to give effect to the foregoing resolution." Mra Ballantyne , reported having agreed with the. landlords far a renewal of the lease of the building in Manchester street, and for certain specified improvements. The Union unanimously endorsed her action. Mrs Venables reported correspondence with the Secretary of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association re a proposed building on the Show Grounds. A letter was read from the Canterbuuy Women's Institute, asking that delegates should be sent to a meeting on Friday to consider the questions of the appointment of female Justices and Prison Reforms. Mrs Venables and Mra Howard were appointed.

The following resolution was unanimously passed :— "Thafc in the opinion of this meeting the Chmtchurch Hospital authorities should be compelled to make preparation for the reception of patients suffering from venereal disease." Mrs Spence gave a very interesting address on "Bands of Hope." • - ' On Wednesday, at the coffee looms, Kttiapoi, a complimentary gathering and social afternoon was held in connection with the W.C.T.U., to welcome Mrs G.; H. Ulttckwell, President of the Union, on hur return from Napier. The proceedings in- ■ eluded a discussion on the affaire of the Union, and steps to be taken to make its claims appreciated.
