PUBLIC MEETING AT CUST.
On Wednesday evening a well attended public meeting was held at the Institute Hall, Cust, in reference to the Waimak»ririAehley water supply, and the raising of a special loan. Mr B. J. Dickonson, the member of the Water Supply Board for the Cust sub-division, presided. Mr J. O'Halloran, Chairman of the Water Supply Board, stated that it was proposed to raise a loan of £3000 to complete the system of water supply from the Waimakariri at Brown's Rock, and it was intended to pieJge the rents,, rates and profits, a special rate, if it was ever required, of l-10th of a penny in the £ to make up the deficiency, the same to extend over 120,000 acres, of the rateable value of £§40,000. He said that it was also expected the district might obtain £1000 from the Government from the thirds of the land sales in the district. After some discussion, mainly having refereAe to the progress of the work, Mr R. Evane moyed and Mr Moderate seconded—" That the meeting approves of the loan and the proposals of the Board as set forth in the notice calling the meeting." This was carried, one or two dissenting. Mr R. Meredith, M.H.R., moved and Mr T. B.urgess seconded—"That the Board be requested to make every effort to complete the water supply system as soon as possible. , ' This was carried. Votes of thanks to Messrs R. Mcore and R. Meredith, M.H.Rs., and Mr O'Hal loran, Chairman of the Board, and to the chairman of the meeting, terminated the proceedings.
