VISIT TO THE CZAR.
ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION IN RUSSIA.
Press Association— By TelesrnDh—Copyrijjht St. Petersburg, August 24. President Faure, accompanied by M. Hanotaux and Admiral Besnard, have arrived at Cronstadt, to visit the C/,ar. The visitors were accorded a great reception. Salutes were fired from the forts, and the Russian bauds played the " Marseillaise," the French band responding with the Russian National Anthem. The Czar aud President Fauve embraced on meeting at dinner in the Imperial Palace of Peterhof, the summer residence of the Imperial family, near St. Petersburg. The Czar, referring to his meeting the French President, said its effect would be to draw closer the ties of friendship between the French and Russian nations. President Faure said the hearts of the two countries beat in unison.
At the meeting the Czar wore the insignia of a Grand Officer of the French Legion of Honour, and President Faure the Russian Order of St. Andrew.
August 25. The welcome accorded to M. Faure by the Czar is unparalleled, and greatly exceeds that shown to the Emperor William.
M. Hanotaux had a long interview with Count Muravieff, Minister for Foreign Affairs.
M. Meline, the Freuch Premier, telegraphed to M. Faure that the French nation stretched forth their hands to the friendly country.
