THE TASMANIA.
Any letters or papers that may be recovered from the wreck of the Tasmania are to be dried in an old brewery in Napier. They will be spread on the perforated floor of the malt kiln and a fire lighted in the furnace underneath. Once the mails are to hand the work will be continued day and night until completed. The Mania correspondent of the Wairoa Guardian writes :— " The rock upon wiiich the Tasmania struck was well known to the Maoris by the name of Matakana. It was a favourite place for fishing for hapuka (cod fish), but the place has been unknown to the younger Maoris."
