Regret in the centre made running from Goletta on the left. They wei-e followed by Vesuvian (on the immediate left of Regret), Velasquez, and Labrador, with the two extreme berths occupied by Knight of the Thistle and Lowly, and Mimic and Roquebrune the rearmost pair. Before reaching the Plantation Corner Regret began to roll about, and in so doing nearly came into collision with Vesuvian. He had retired nevertheless before any damage was done, leaving Goletta in command from Velasquez, Vesuvian, Knight of the Thistle, and Labrav dor, the others being headed by Lowly. Al the foot of the hill Velasquez deprived Goletta of the command, and for a&tride or two looked like going home unchallenged. Half-way up the hill, however, Knight of the Thistle passed Goletta, and put in such good work that he got to the girths of Velasquez two hundred yards from home.
