THE ILL-FATED BARQUE SELADON.
Sydney, August 23. The Seladon's cargo was insured for £535 with the Australian Alliance Company, and the money was paid over some time ago. At the time of the vessel's departure Captain Jaeger was very ill from consumption. THE VICTORIAN RAILWAYS. Melbourne, August 23. Compared with the previous year ihe railway revenue for this year increased by £214,500, and the expenditure increased by £17,000. THE MERCANTILE BANK. The creditors of the Mercantile Bank have adopted a modified scheme for the formation of an Assets Realisation Company.
THE PROPOSED EXCHANGE OF
TROOPS.
With reference to the proposed exchange between the Imperial and colonial troops. Sir George Turner states that the idea is to send small bodies of permanently employed defence forces to England, and have their places filled for twelve months by men from the Royal Artillery. Victoria contemplates sending fifty men from the Permanent Artillery. The co-operation of the other colonies is necessary before the scheme, which Sir George Turner highly approves, can be carried out.

Langland's ironworks, one of the oldjjgt in the colony, are about to close
owing to the adversity of the
limes. A meeting of the shareholders was held this week to consider the position. At least 200 hands will be thrown out of employment.
SIR CHART.ES T-TTiT.EY'S FUNERAL.
Brisbane, August 23.
The late Sir Charles Lilley's funeral was very largely attended. The Ministers and leading citizens were present. There were many beautiful wreaths, including one from the Parliamentary Labour party as a small " tribute to their departed leader in the cause of humanity."
