LYTTELTON VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.
The annual social ot this Brigade was held jon Friday evening in the Oddfellows' Hall. There waa a very large attendance of aotive and honorary members, with their wives and families. The musio for the dancing, Seo., was supplied by Mrs Smith, Miss O'Brien and Mr Biordan. • Several contests, were decided amongst the children, the successful competitors beiug awarded prizes, During the evening Cr. W. Owen, as Chairman of the Fire Prevention Committee, presented the following awards to members of the Brigade :—Fireman J. P. Eameß, five years' service medal; two yeai-a' extra service bars to Captain W. J. Toomey, 21 years; Fireman J. C. Graham, 20 years; Fireman A. Foote, 19 years; Fireman B. I Treleaven, 17 years ; Fireman J. Knowles, 13 years; Fireman P. Ealam, 7 years; Secretary H. W. Baker, 11 years. Three years' certificxtes were presented to Firemen S. McDonald, E. Marshall, F. Lurch. Messrs G. Agar, G. Palmer andT, L. Smith, honorary members who on several occasions had rendered'tho Brigade services, wer* presented with framed photos of the active members, the presentation being made by Captain Toomey. Mr J. Joyce, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs Toomey with; an enlarged handsomely framed photo of Captain Toomey. Mr Joyce, in making the pre* sentation, highly complimented Captain Toomey upon the excellent services he had rendered the borough. Captain Toomey suitably responded. Light refreshments j were handed round during the evening sM dancing was kept up with spirit.
