CULVERDEN.

Sunday Working.—J. Flynn charged, under the Police Offences Act, with working at his trade as waggoner by driving a waggon and six horses at Hanmer Plains on Sunday, July 25th, admitted, the charge. He explained that in carting timber from Culverden to the Plains, on the Saturday, he was delayed, and thought it was no offence to make it up on Sunday. The Resident Magistrate said it was clear that, under section 19, any person who on Sunday, in or in view of any public place, traded, worked at his trade or calling, transacted business, or exposed goods for sale, was liable to the penalty of a pound for each offence. He dismissed the present case, cautioning defendant.
