ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Oh Tuesday evening, as Mv M. Peach, of Ashley, tvnd his daughter, Miss Peach, were driving home from Rangiowt, the horse became unmanageable, and careered along the road at full gallop. At the sharp turn near the Ashley Presbyterian Church, the occupants were thrown violently on to the Bide of the road, fortunately landing on some grass. The trap capsized. and was considerably damaged, the horse escaping practically unhurt. Miss Peach waa severely shaken and bruised, but Mr Peacb, who was just recovering from a recent operation, received rather serious injuries to his head and right lung. The sufferers were promptly removed to the house of Mc E. H. Brown, and were attended by Dr. Volokman. Yesterday morning both had recovered sufficiently to be taken to theic own home.

On Sunday a son of Mr T. S. Fostes, staying at Rangiora, foil and broke one of his legs. On-Tuesday Messrs C. Lucas and W. Bennett met with an accident at Mr W, Chapman's ran, Weet Eyreton. Why* filling a dray with shingle an overhanging ledge of the pit caved in and buried the two men. Bennett waa niuoh bruised, and Lucas had one of his legs broken above the knee, and was removed to Rangiora, where he received medical attention.

A boy named Basley, a son of Mr G. W. Basley, solicitor, mcc with a shocking accident this morning. He was riding uuder iv bridge over which a train was passing when, his horse ehied and threw the boy, aadhis foot caught in the stirrup. He waa dragged about a hundred yards, i and the horse kicked him twice on the head before getting free. When picked up Basley was quite unconscious, and he is not expected to live. GIBBORNE, May 26. MacLaughlin, an able seaman on the b.s. Dingadee, was killed at 8.30 o'clock last night as the steamer was preparing to leave, for Napier. MacLaughlin was on, the fore* castle'head assisting to cut the anchor, when the falls gave way and knocked him down, his head falling with great force oa an iron chock. He died almost immediately. Hie body was brought ashore,and an inquest, held to-day, when the jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death,"and added a rider that, in their opinion, all the gear should be thoroughly inspected, - REEFTON, May 26.
