WAIPARA.
The Waipara. Road Board met on Tue3day, May 4th. Present—Messrs James Douglas, U. J. Burke, S. B. Gibb, Sir George Clifford. Mr James Douglas was elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Correspondence was read from the Manager of Tipapa, asking that some repairs be done on the Motunau River road. Granted. From Mrs J. D. Lance, thanking the Board for its letter of condolence on the death of Mr Lance, the Board's -late Chairman. P. Honeybqne's tender of £34 10s was accepted for cuttings on the MotUDau River road. A deputation, headed by the Manager of Glenmark, accompanied by Messrs L. C. Crawley and T. Armstrong, attended, to request that a stone ford at the crossing of Waikari Creek'on the main nortli road, bs removed and a bridge substituted, alleging as a reason for their request that the. ford objected to caused the creek to rise above its natural level in time of flood, thereby causing considerable damage to a large area of country on the upper side of the crossing. It was decided tha-t several members of the Board-should visit the locality, and that a reply be sent to Mr G. H. Moore after next meeting. Accounts, amounting to £546.63 lid were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. The nexfc meeting of the Board takes place on Monday, June 7th. The. annual meeting of ratepayers was held in the Board's office on the same day. It was resolved to adopt the statement of accounts as read, sabject to audit. The gentlemen present took the opportunity to express their deep regret at the death of Mr J. D. Lance, the late Chairman. The meeting then adjourned -with the usual vote of thenki to the ebair.
