The Foreign Committee of the Senate, ignoring the counsel of Mr Olney, Seoretary of State, for moderation, passed a joint resolution recognising the autonomy of Cuba, and that it should negotiate with Spain for peace. New York stocks dropped five points in two hours. Many Governors of States have telegraphed their readiness to raise volunteers if the resolution is adopted by Congress. It is expected that President Cleveland will veto the resolution. Washington, December 20. Mr Olney states that unless the Executive officially declared the decision revised the resolution respecting Cuba does not alter the attitude.
