MIDLAND v UNITED THIRTEEN.
This contest was also concluded at Hagley Park on Saturday, the Midlanders winning easily by ten wickets. With one wicket down for 23 runs the United continued their second venture, and by steady and consistent batting by the earlier batsmen, and a freely hit 41 by Hair, the total was taken to 159 before the last man was disposed of. Lawrence and Stephenson secured the best bowling figures, and the fielding was fairly good. The Midland required 80 to win, and D. Reese and F. H. Robertson were sent in first to face the bowling pf Barclay and Medlow. The runs came freely from the start, and in a little over the hour the two batsmen named had made the runs required to win. Both men batted well, but Reese gave a hard chance to the bowler and Robertson should have been caught at slip. The United fielding was decidedly loose, and their bowling appeared easy to negotiate.
