The Premier has instructed the Agent-General to support the Bill legalising colonial marriages with a deceased wife's sister. The South Australian Government has given similar instructions. Messrs Cribb and McDonald Paterson, two Legislative Councillors resign in order to contest seats in the Lower House at the general election. AUSTEALIA AND JAPAN. The Japanese Consul for Queensland has arrived. He is hopeful of instituting a large wool trade with Japan. He ridicules the idea that Japan will encourage emigration to Queensland, and says if any Japanese come to the colony, they will only do so under favourable contracts.
