Mr J. O. Shorland started from the Christchurch Pose Office at 9.30 a.m. yesterday for Dunedin, his object being to lower tbe cycling record of 23b 43min, put up on Friday and Saturday last by Mr D. S. Bowman, who rode from Dunedin to Christchurch. Mr Shorland was officially started on his self-imposed journey by members of the Executive of the Cyclists Alliance, and his departure was witnessed by a large crowd of people. Shorland passed through Timaru at 5.30. He stayed there only tweuty minutes. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) OAMARU, March 9. Shorland arrived at Oamaru at 10 50, having been thirteen hours on the road. He expects to break Bowman's record between Christchurch and Dunedin by a couple of hours.
