RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of th« Rangiora Borough Counoil was held on Friday evening. There were present the MayOi (Mr T. Keir), Crs. Blackett, Cone, Foster, Carmicbael, Good, Graham, Roberts, Sanaom, and Jennings. A letter was read from the Ashley Road Board statiug that the proposed work in the Ashley riverbed hat been'held over. The. Ashburton County Council wrote asking the Counoil to en dorse their application for a reserve for storm water purposes. Agreed to. The Secretary to the Treasury notified the payment of £2 14s, being dog fees received at the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, Rangiora. The agent for the Publio Trustee wrote in* timatiog that one acre, part of R.S. 81, bad been vested in the Publio Trustee under the Unclaimed Lands Act. The Clerk to the Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board sent particulars of the payment of the license fees by J. G. E. Winsloe, and enclosed a oheque for £40 for one year's fee, also a letter from Mr Helmore, on the tame subject. It was decided to accept the Board's offer if it will pay the Council's expense in the matter. Mr W. Bridget applied for permission to erect a verandah at his premises in High, street. Granted. The Works Committee reported that the contractors for kerbing and asphalting bad completed their works. Some small work* were recommended and ordered to be done. The receipts for the month were £67 Is lid. Cr. balance, £182 19s 6d. Accounts were passed for payment, £142 16s Bd. Mr John Bart's tender for horse feed was accepted. Only one tender waa received for the borough reserve, that of Mr Geo. Murdoch at 7s per acre, and for a term of fourteen years. The tender was accepted. Nineteen applications were received for the position of dayman, and James Smith was appointed. lb was decided to reduce the rent of the cottage from 6s to 5s per week. It was resolved that the Minister of Justice be written to, and urged to at once go on with the erection of a new police station for Rangiora. The meeting then terminated.
