The following wore tho mining returns :— Big River, 7030z of amalgam from 150 toas (clean up); Keep-it-Dark, 140uZ of amalgam from 110 tons ; Cocksparrow dredge, 3300z odwts of amalgam for eighty houtß' dredging. The following are the quotations :—Big River 20a to 2la, Bullor dredge 5s 6d to 6s, Couksparrow 5a to 33 3d, Cumberland 3* 9d to 4s, Exchange Is 3d to Is 6J, Dillon Is 2d to Is 4d, Hercules 3s to 33 4d, Dirk 31s 6d to 52s od, Goiden Lead 10 i to Is 21, Inglewood Is 3.1 to Is 6d, Ljvit Creek 03 3d to 3s 61, Lord E tward 2s 8d to 2s lOd, No. 2 LUrk 2s 3d to 2s 6J, Russell Is 4d to Is 81, Success Is to Is 3d, Alpine Si 6d to 10s, Welcome 3s to 3s 4d.

AUCKLAND, Maroh 7. The mining market is very firm and there is a continued advance in prices. The Try Fluke return was 2350z of gold, being an increase on the last, and Kapai Vermont 400oz of gold from 308 tons of stone. The Great Mercury from 480 tons of stone obtained 2920z of gold. The Hauraki crushed 350 tons for 2933 z of gold, valued at £7000, ;i»i increase of nearly £1000 on the January returns. The Southern Star, mentioned by cable, is the Southern Star Gold Miues Company, with a capital'of £75,000 in 600 000 shares of 2s 6:1 each, which has been formed to purchase gold-mining properties in New Zealand. Tnese, include the Southern Star and 15 acres adjoining, tho New Hauraki, and two other properties at Coromandel, and one at tiie Thames. A private cable received two days ago slated that the Company had been underwritten.
