JUNIOR CUP MATCHES.
The match between the United and Lancaster Park resulted in one of the most exciting finishes ever seen at the Park. The L.P.C. required 114 in their second innings to win, towards which they had made 30 for the loss of three wickets. On resuming, two wickets fell with only au addition of 3 to the score. Smith and Pavitt then revived the L.P.C. hopes somewhat, taking the score to 59. Bates helped Pavitt to take the score to 90, and then left for a serviceable 17. At 10b Pavitt ran himself out, after playing a sound innings for 36. Another wicket fell quickly, and as the last mau went in there were still about half a dozeo runs wanted. O'Brien was equal to the occasion, for, notwithstanding splendid bowling by Williams and Smith and sure fielding by all, his defence was impregnable, and eventually * sharply run single, followed by four overthrows, settled it, the Lancastrians thus winning by one wicket and 5 runs.
| The match St. Albans v High School | was concluded at Hagley Park, the suburban team winning easily. At the close of the first day's play the scores stood :—School 134, St. Albans 101 for five wickets. The remaining batsmen only added 28 runs (Craddnck 11) and the innings closed for 129. O'Brien and Williams secured moat of (he wickets. The School in their innings scored 112 (E. Harper 28, Williams 22, O'Brien 21, and Nurse 12 not out). J. D. Colville five wickets for 15 runs. West two for 17, and Faiquhar two for 17, bowled welL The St. Albans men requiriug 118 to win soon bad the result beyond doubt, 80 being totalled before the first wicket fell (Smith 23). Two more wickets fell before the required total was reached. C. Colville played a dashing innings for 74 not out.
