NAPIER, February 18. Io the Supreme Court the case, A. B. Russell, station hand,v W. Gilmour, sheep farmer, was heard. This was a claim for £1000 damages for libel and slander, tlie defendant accusing plaintiff of destroying sheep. Judgment was for £100 and costs on the lowest scale. J_« Foley vJ. Lowraan was a claim for £200 for breach of con-rao. regarding the purchase of land at Wood* ville. Judgment for plaintiff for £150. WANGANUI, February 18. David Creech and Millicent Creech, alias Amelia Thornton, were convicted this morning of sly grog selling at Mangaweka, near Huuterville. The accused had been convicted oa eight charges previously. Judge Kettle, in sentencing Creech, said the extreme penalty was utterly inadequate ia suoh a case where a man was an.incorrigible sly grog seller. He was sentenoed to six months hard labour. The oharge wa* withdrawn against the wife, who was ill.
