WELLINGTON ANNIVERSARY.
(PBE3S ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 22. A public holiday is being observed on the occasion of the fifty-sixih anniversary of Wellington province. The weather is fine overhead, but a strong northerly wind is making things disagreeable in town. The chief attraction, in addition to the races at the Hutt, is the Port Nicholson Yacht Club's annual regatta, but the fixture is not, causing so much interest as usual, owing In the absence of outside entries. There was a large exodus to the country by the morning trains. The heavy sea in the harbour interfered considerably with the success of the regatta, several of the smaller craft being unable to face the elements. Iα the first-class yacht race Waifcangi has a good lead, and will probably win, with Maritcna second. Ngaire, late of Auckland, was five minutes late in starting. Isca has a commanding lead in the secondclass event Atalauta, late of Napier, did not start. Jeanie Reid woo the third-class race. Later. The Waitangi won the first class race by fifty-five minutes, the Maritana being second. The Isca won the second class event, with the Rona second.
