•oTARANAKt v NELSON. (press association telegjram.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jauuary 22. The Interproviacial Cricket Match, Taranaki v Nelson, commenced this morning. Taranaki won the toss and batted. At noon Taranaki had lost two wickets for 16 ; Pratt 0, Lusk6. At the luncheon adjournment Taranaki were all out for 69. The additional scores were—Syme 17, Heonan 10, Izard 5, Moore 13, G. Bayley 1, Mills 9, McCarthy (not out) 2 ; extras 6. Cole took seven wickets for 27, Wastney three for 15. Play was resumed at 2 30. At three o'clock Nelson had loaf; two wiokets for 7 run 3. Denckor 1, Wbitehorn 3. Later. Nelson's total score for one iunings was 54, Broad 24 and Cole 15 contributing the greatest number. Mills and McCarthy were the most successful with the ball. When the stumps were drawn Taranaki had lo3t four wickets for 54 runs. The game will be resumed to-morrow. A match was played at Lancaster Park yesterday, between the compositors attached to the Daily Press and the Weekly Press, when the former won by 26 runs in the iiret innings. The victors went in first and, thanks principally to the good batting of W. H. Smith (35) and l>. Edmonds (21), they scored 77, H. Nuttal being next highest scorer with 7. The Weekly Press replied with 51, T. S. Aequith leading the way with 18. The Daily started their eecond innings and scored 101 for the loss of one wicket (Ritchie, not out, 60; Smith, not out, 30 ; Board, 11). Ritchie, Roberts and Smith divided the bowling honours for the winners, and Barry, Skolton, Maddren and Izett shared the wickets for the losera.
