The Government has granted a concession to an English Company to convey electric power to Coolgardie. If the scheme is carried out it will revolutionise the present methods of driving the batteries and drilling machines, and largely overcome the water difficulty. A new class of stone has been found in the Hannans district with bands of quartz heavily charged with pyrites, galena, and rich crystals of gold. The stone resembles that found in Ballarat. Some exceedingly rich stuff has been taken from the Great New Zealandia mine, Coolgardie, exactly similar to the Boulder mine ore. FATAL YACHTING ACCIDENT. Hobart, December 80. The yacht Sylph capsized at Strahan. Dr. Matheson and two men named Rogers and Lechnent were drowned, and two others were rescued. TASMANIAN FINANCES. Sir E. G. N. Bvaddon, speaking at Launceston, said that for the first time in five years the revenue and expenditure had balanced with a credit to the good.
