WAIMATE CALEDONIAN SPORTS.
The annual gathering took place at Victoria Park on Boxing Day. The officers did their utmost to make the sports a success. It is estimated there were 1500 people 'on the ground. The following are the events :— Heavy hammer handicap—A. Wilkio (3ft), 74ft lOin, 1; W. Patterson (4ft), 74ft 6in, 2; W. Lindsay (2ft), 74ft 2in, 3. Hop, step and jump handicap —W. Munroe. district maiden race, 200yds— J. Hazelton. Putting heavy ball—A. Wilkie. 100 yds handicap, final heal;—E. W. Dailey. Bagpipe music — Pibrochs, R. Finlayeon; marches, R. Finlayson. 200yds— J. H. Shaw, jun. Light hammer handicap—A. Wilkie. Running high jump—W. Lindsay. Waimate Cup, 440 yds—L. O'Drisooll. One mile bicycle race—E. Stamford. Highland reel— R. McKechnie. Wrestling, Cumberland stylo —G. Munroe. Hurdle race, 440 yds —J. Hazelton. Highland fling —R. McKechnie. Putting light ball—M. Thyne. Caledonian handicap, 880yda —L. O'Driscoll. Three-milo bicycle race—E. Stamford. Bagpipe musio (strathspeys)—A. Murry (reels), R. Jinlnyson. Boys' race, 440 yds (uuder 10)— Betton. Boxing Day handicap, one mike— L. O'Driscoll. Vaulting with pole—W. Lindsay. Sailors' hornpipe—McKechnie. Walking race for boys (underil6), one mile— C Joyce. Sword dance—Murray. Boys' race (under 13)— J. McAuly. Irish jig (in costume) —R.
