London, December 18. The Goldfieids Finance Developing Company, with a capital of £200,000, is annouueed for the purpose of operating in Africa and Australia. PRINCE OF WALES INJURED. While shooting at Sir Edward Law son's the Prince of Wales received i. spark in his eye, but the injury is no: very serious. DIVIDEND. The N.Z. and River Plate Company declare a dividend of 5 per cent. an<! carry forward £5100. BIRTH OF A PRINCE. December 14. The Duchess of York has given birth to a son; both mother and infant are doing well. THE IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT. Parliament has been summoned for the dispatch of business on February 11th. PROTECTION CONFERENCE. The Protection Conference, presided over by the Right Hon. J. Lowther, approved of Mr Chamberlain's circular which advocated a preferential treatment of the colonies. THE ASHANTEE QUESTION. London, December 15. The Ashantees on the Gold Coast have been expelled by floods, which destroyed the bridges. Nevertheless the advance is proceeding, and the Government is arming tribes hostile to KingPrempeh. UNIVERSAL CONSCRIPTION REJECTED. Belgium, December 14. The Minister for War has resigned, owing to the Government having shelved the proposal for a universal conscription. RESIGNATION OF THE SPANISH MINISTRY. Madrid, December 14. The Spanish Ministry has resigned owing to charges of corruption. PORT ARTHUR. Shanghai, December 15. China has re-occupied Port Arthur. TRADE WITH CHINA. Calcutta, December 13. The English merchants are sending an expedition to explore the provinces of Szechuan and Yunnan, which are contiguous to Burmah. Other movements for the developing of trade with China are also going on, the expedition from Tonquin having reached the new districts and opened fresh markets. MADAGASCAR. Tamatave, December 14. A mob destroyed the British mission station at Reamaninandro. The missionary and his family escaped. A strong anti-foreign feeling has been aroused in Madagascar, and the Europeans in the outlying districts have been ordered to the capital, THE UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR. Washington, December 14. The leading American journals censure the remarks of Mr Bayard, the Ambassador in England, in which he is alleged to have attacked the domestic policy of the United States, and demand that he shall be re-called.
