GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the monthly meeting of the Geraldine County Council, the following members were present:—Mr J. Talbot (Chairman), and Messra J. Murray, A. Relman, A, White, G. J. Danniston, and Quinn. It was agreed that the Solicitor should be' instructed to proceed with draft of new by-law, for regulating heavy traffic on bridges, the Levels Council having consented to act with the Counoil in the matter. The engineers reported that the Opibi protective works stood admirably during recent floods. They recommended work to be done at the approach to the Opihi bridge, also at Opihi bridge, Bainolifl*. It waß resolved that the latter work ebould be put in hand, and the former Stand over. The engineers'recommendation was adopted as to defending the terrace at Orari bridge, Riveraloa. A special report was received from the engineers as to the state of the Temuka bridge, whioh is unsafe for any load over five tons. The Engineers suggested two schemes, one for immediate repairs to the bridge, and one thatflixteen chains of protective fence should be set to confine the river to its preaent channel, and then only 300 ft of bridging would be necessary for traffic, whioh could be rebuilt on a new and stronger design, and a great saving would be made in future maintenance under this scheme. The Council adopted the second scheme on the understanding that there would be no immediate expenditure. The report on the proposed water supply for Arundel district stated that ample water could be got from the intake on tbe Orari-Raogitata system. The accounts passed for payment amounted to £76.
