ENTERTAINMENT OF THE VISITORS.

A meeting of citizens in connection with the entertainment of the New South Wales cricketers on their return from the South, waa held at the Chamber of Commerce at 4 p.m. yesterday. Mr H. J. Beswick occupied tbe ohair, and there waa a goodly attendance. Mr Ollivier moved—"That a citizens' ball be held on January Ist, that being the only night available." Mr R. C. Bishop seconded the motion, which was carried. Hon. E. C. J. Strvens moved—"That a General Committee be formed representing all the names of those gentlemen who have signified their intention of taking part in the matter." Mr VV. P. Cowltshaw seconded the motion, which was agreed to, Mr Cowlishaw moved—" That Messrs Beswick, R. C. Bishop, R. M. Macdonald, P. Campbell, A. M. Ollivier, aud Wanklyn be appointed aa Executive Committee." Mr P. Campbell seconded tbe motion, which was carried. Mr Wanklyn moved—" That the price of the tickets be fixed at 7s 6d for gentlemen and 53 for ladies." Mr Ollivier seconded the motion, which was carried, au amendment by Mr Cotterill, that the prices should be 10s and 7a 6d respectively, being lost. Mr W. H. E. Wanklyn was elected as Secretary, and the meeting closed.

A match was played on Thursday between Kaiapoi Thursday team and East Eyreton on the ground of the latter, and resulted in a win for the visitors by an innings and 2 runs. Scores—Kaiapoi 51 (D. Parker 14, G. H. Blackwell, sen., 12) ; Eyreton 27 ; second innings 22. " For Kaiapoi, Jaloom took six wickets for 11 runs, and F. Burrows four wickets for 17, and J. Merrin six wickets for 11 runs. For the losers, J. Cherry four wickets for 16, and Hurly three wickets for 8 runs. The Southbridge v Rakaia match was won by the former by 13 runs, not 113 as stated yesterday. A match was played [at New Brighton on Thursday between the Farmers' Cooperative Association and the home team, and resulted in a win for the latter. The weather, together with the wet state of the § round, was against high sooring. Scores:— 'armors' Co-operative Association, 36 (Wilson 18); New Brighton, 51 (E. Prebble 28, McHaffie'l4). Ridley and Petrie bowled for the losers, aud Prebble Bros. (3) for the winners.
