SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the West Christchurch School Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Present—Mr W. McClea (Chairman), and Messrs F. W. Sandford, G. Tombs, G. T. Chisnall, H. Curlett, G. Watson, H. C. Godfrey, and Dr. Moorhouse. It was decided to alter the night of meeting to tbe second Tuesday in the month. Mr James Hatfield waited on the Committee, and offered a contribution of two guineas for the purchase of special prizes on certain conditions, and, after consultation with the Head Master, tbe Committee accepted the offer with thanks. The recent entertainment in aid of tbe prize and school apparatus fund bad proved highly successful, and tbe Committee desired to congratulate the teachers who bad trained the children on the success attending their efforts, and passed a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies and gentlemen who kindly assisted, includiug the Head Master and the teaching staff. It was decided to vote about the usual amount for the purchase of prizes, and the Committee agreed to be in attendance at their distribution.

A special meeting ot the Waltham School Committee was held on Tuesday evening, all the members being present excepting Mr Wraight. Mr Sim in the chair. It was decided to close the school on Friday, 20th December, for five weeks (Christmas holidays). The Committee decided to invite the parents having children attending tbe school to attend on Saturday. 21*>t inst., at 3 p.m., when an exhibition of the scholars' wotk for the past year will be held. The presentation of prizes, farcies, ic., and a lantern entertainment by Mr Clifford will be given during the afternoon.
