The annual balance-sheet of the Gear Heat Company, after making allowance for depreciation, Sec, leaves £8363 to be apportioned. A 10 per cent, dividend will be paid, absorbing £4600. and there will be carried forward £3763. Tbe reserve and insurance funds aggregate £25,705. The model of tne Ballance memorial, pre{tared by tbe contractor, Mr Helver, is ready or shipment to Italy. The Premier, Mr Carroll, and others inspected it yesterday and pointed out one or two trifling alterations, which will make it eminently satisfactory. A movement is on foot to establish a General Sports Club, with gymnasium, &c It is expected that a membership of more than 500 will be obtained. A bootmaker named Mountstephen has been committed for trial on four charges of larceny. He had apparently been engaged in petty pilfering from shops for years, as no leas than seventeen packages of goods, mostly fancy articles, were found in bis house. In at least one instance his depredations had led to another man being wrongly suspected. INVERCARGILL, December 13.
