SATURDAY'S PRODUCE REPORT.
(by our commercial editor.)
Cable advices to-day show a slightly better teeliug with respect to wheat in Europe, and the trend of the market will be watched with considerable interest, as a steady rise at Home now would, in conjunction with the better prices ruling for wool, prove a source of much encouragement to our faroers, and the prospects for next esason'd crop be greatly enhanced. Several lines of prime wheat were sold in town to-day, the average price ruling being 3s 4d. Buyers are few at present, there being but few outlets, and local millers generally speak of stocks being sufficient to carry them through the remainder of the season. Oats keep firm, and the quantity on offer is at present small. Should dry weather continue, we are likely to see a steady firming up in values. Excepting for lines of exceptional quality Is 9d may be said to be about the top of the market.
Chaff has a tendency to firm rather than otherwise, but at present 55a to 57s 6d ie actual value obtainable.
PisAS are wanted, but there seem to be very few indeed left, and orders have to p5.39 unexecuted.
Beans are not much in favour just now, and prices are a shade easier.
Potatoes are dull, and buyers seem in. clined to stand off for a few weeks now before operating further.
Seeds are quieter, and unless we get some rain shortly the season for sowing ia likely to end abruptly.
[These quotations, unless othencise specified, are the net cash prices paid to the producer free of brokerage or commission, and for delivery at country stations within a twenty-five mile radius of town. For delivery on board thip at LytteUon add 2d to per bushel]
