Tho ordinary meeting of the EUesmere Road Board was held in the District Office, Lee3ton, on Monday, l3t July. PresentMessrs A. Chamberlain (Chairman), R. Locahead, Wm. Nixon, G. C. Waby and Wm. McMillan. The following correspondence was dealt with :—From Mr Jas McFarland, Heslerton, askiug the Board to make some improvement on road leading from Heslerton to Dunsandel aud from Healerton to Killinchy. The Overseer to inspect and report. From Mr C. Smithson, asking for drain to be out on Moor heads road and the Tramway road, fronting on his land. Decided to call for tenders if Mr Smithson will pay one-half the coat. From Mr H. Hight, re contract on Boggy Creek through his laud. The Clerk to communicate with Mr Hight. From Mr Pat Mooney, asking the Board to construct a bridge over the drain reserve near his land. Declined. Circular from the Selwyn County Council, covering special order levying rate of &th of a penny in the £ for Hospital and Charitable Aid, amounting to £627 138 4d. From the Selwyn County Council, covering copy of special order, placing the boundary road between Rxkaia and Eilesmere Boards near Bankside under control of Elleamcro Bmrd. The balance sheet of the Selwyn County Council was then received. From the Chairman of the Sedgemere School Committee, asking the Board to bear one-half the cost of repairing the dividing fence round che metal pit near the school. It was decided to offer the use of this shingle reserve to the Committee, subject to certain conditions. From the Bank of New Zealand, referring to the Board's account. From the Colonial Secretary, le election. From Mr Thos. Griffin, asking to have his name removed from tho roll iv respect of Lot 47818, Doyleston. Granted. "From Mr Martin Bergin, asking for the opening of accommodation road at the foot of his laud. The Overseer was directed to see. the road and ascertain what portion of the. cost will be paid by interested parties. From Mr J. Osborne, re storm water, and asking the Board to clean out tbe drain on the tramway to relieve his drain. The Surveyor to inspect and report at next meeting. From Mr John McVinnie, complaining that P, Mooney had put in a culvert on the drain reserve too small to carry off the water from the road near his land. The Board could not interfere. Mr Bailey and four others saw the Board asking for a culvert across the main Leeston road at the junction of the Irwell and Brookside roads and the Leeston road, also asking for improvements of the drainage at the foot of Hanmer'B road. The Board decided to inspect the outlet. Mr H. for embankment on Tramway road by Boggy C-eek to prevent the overflow down the ro*d. To be attended to. Mr Bailey applied for the use of the shingle pit by Woodman's, aud offered to clean off the gorse for the right of grazing the land. Granted. Mr Thos. Douohue saw the Board and asked to have the Boggy ( creek cleaned out through his land. Declined. Mr Chas. Campbell and others saw the Board in reference to the storm Mater on McConnell's road, which was stopped by Cjnneil's culvert having fatten in. Mr Thos. Dixon askei the Board to widen a drain at the bottom of Boggy creek by his land. Deferred for the pre.«eut. Messr3 John B&rnstt and S. Graham Baw the Board in reference to th* bridge over Bealej's creek by tha Lakeside Creamery, asking the Board to undertake the work. To be attended to when the season is suitable. Mr Thos. Fnssell saw the Board, and complained of the diversion of water on lo Harman's road to bis detriment. Mr Lunn to take tbe levels; and report at next meeting. Mr John Fay saw the Board and asked for a new culvert on Harmau's road over Branmont creek. To be attended to when the season is suitable. The Clerk to write to Mr Biyne, Lincoln Co.lege, asking if he can suggest any more effectual way of poisoning and otherwise destroying small birds. It was decided to have the pipes removed and a ford made on the ordinary level at C. Campbell's corner, and oall for tenders for widening and deepening the creek from the concrete culvert to McConnell's land for the next sale day. It was decided to accept Jas. Douglas's tender for Southbridge day work at 53 per day, and to make the next lot of poisoned grain for distribution on the last sale day in July. Mr G. C. Waby moved—'• That a general district road rate of three-eighths of a penny in the £ sterling; also, in compliance with a special order of the Selwyu County Council, dated Bth June, 1895, a Hospital and Charitable Aid rate of oneeighth of a penny in the £ sterling, be made and levied on all the rateable property in the Eilesmere district for the period commencing Ist April, 1895, and ending 31st March, 1896, both such rates to become due and payable in one sum on tbe 16th July, 1895." This was seconded by Mr McMillan and carried unanimously. The Overseer's report was then considered. The pay sheet, amounting to £95 2s 4d, was examined and passed.
