The expenditure for tlia same quarter waa :—Permanent appropriation, £157,833 ; annual appropriations £672,349; transferred to Public Works Fund, £200.000 ; total, £1,021,182.

Deduating the debit balancu at December 31st of £34,173 and adding £2220 received on Cheviot account, a surplus for tho year of £180,019 is arrived at.
