NORTH CANTERBURY v KAIAPOI.
This match, played on the Kaiapoi ground last Saturday, attracted about 1000 spectators, and also brought ont one or two leather lungs, who kept up a good deal of barracking. Mr Evans acted as referee. Immediately the ball got into play it was taken posssssion of by the Yellows, and after one or two free kicks Gray for Kaiapoi got a try, which Templeton converted to goal. After some offside play the ball was taken into the Blues' quarters. Moir,
however, secured it. and getting in gained » try, which Temp'eton converted, and the first spell closed without the Blues making a score, although they piayed with energy, but were at a disadvantage in passing. Soon after kicking off again a try was obtained by the Yellows, but not converted. The Blues then went in with double vigour, and from a mark obtained a goal, kicked by Wilson. This was followed by a try obtained by Fitzgerald. Wilson, however, failed to convert. The gem of the play during the game was a beautiful piece of passing by the Yellows, and a smart run made by Pearce, who got in with a try, and Templeton obtained the goal. The rest ot the game was in a bad light, and was for about fifteen minutes a series of scrums, till time was called. Kaiapoi won by 18 points (3 goals and a try) to North Canterbury 7 points (a goal from a mark aud a try).
