THE REV. H. R. HAWEIS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sik, —With regard to the Cathedral bells and my lectures, let mc say that I am much indebted to the courtesy of the ringers. I sent a message requesting them to desist, and they at once responded in the most courteous manner.

As regards the non-attendance of the clergy at my lecture, let mc say that not only have many of the clergy attended, but 1 have received many visits from tfeem since my arrival in Christchuroh. The Bishop of Christchurch was the first to wire to mc an invite to preach in the Cathedral. He afterwards wrote repeating his request, and regretting that absence from town would prevent him from being present at my lecture. I have received nothing but kindness from the clergy and laity of the town, and to show my appreciation I readily consented to g<ve an address at 7 o'clock on Saturday at St. John's Church by request of the Rev. Mr Watson. Having to leave town on Saturday I am unable to preach at the Cathedral on Sunday. Thanking you for your able reports of my lectures.—Yours, &c, H. R. Haweis, M.A., Incumbent of 8k Jamee'a, Marylebone, London. Coker's Hotel, Christchurch.
